Basmatic Nubian Guest House

Pros: The facilities were clean and had Nubian vibes all around. The manager, Muhammad, was friendly and gave us suggestions and helped us in booking cars to travel to Abu Simbel and later to Luxor. The apartment met our needs and the view of the Nile River was fantastic. The guest house provided free ferry rides while checking in and checking out to the main island.

Cons: The apartment is on the opposite side of the main island, so I had a bit of a walk to the local ferry. It's also within walking distance to good restaurants. It's on the quieter side of Elephantine Island. If you are walking back late at night, get some landmarks as the dirt paths all look the same, we got confused a few times but always take the well lit path. The locals are happy to help, everyone knows everything since it's a small island.

Pros: The location was superb. Really quiet with great views. The staff were absolutely amazing too including the drivers and boat captains who took us to Abu Simbel, Luxor and Nubian village. The boat rides were the highlights with lovely wildlife and sunset views. Both Mohammad and his kids have made a place for themselves in ours hearts with heir big smiles and hospitality.

Cons: Nothing in particular. However we had really big suitcases and it was a nightmare for both us and the staff to carry them from the boats to the guest house because of the ruggedness of the island. That said, it was not their fault at all. Pillows could be harder but that’s personal preference too. One small area that they could improve (and this is constructive criticism) - we took a day trip to Abu Simbel and took some packed lunch which only had bread, packeted croissants and water. In general it would have been fine but it was an 11 hour round trip with literally nothing on the way where you could buy food so the packed lunch could be more wholesome with fruits and proper meals.

Mohammed's hotel was a wonderful surprise to us and all the staff were extremely helpful.

Pros: The host was super friendly, accommodating, helpful and cheerful. He made us feel right at home.

Cons: Booking.com stated that breakfast was included, but in reality it was not included. Breakfast was average -- not a typical Egyptian breakfast.

Pros: Very good location on the quiet side of the island, 5min to the ferry. Very good contact with the personel, always helpful and available, helped us book trip to Abu Simbel and transfer to Luxor. Clean apartment and warm at night. Kitchen annex could have some more utensils but overall was ok.

Pros: We couldn't have hoped for a better place to stay! The apartment was great and the rooftop is amazing. Mustafa and Mohammed were exceptionally kind and welcoming, showing us around Elephantine. Would absolutely recommend and hope to return one day!

Magical

Pros: Friendly staff, beautiful room and excellent location for exploring the Abu Simbel temples, plus there was a fabulous take away breakfast prepared to take with us for our early flight.

Cons: No dislikes

Wonderful Nile location

Cons: Noise of people in the stairwell, they are not sound proofed rooms.

Great stay on the banks of the Nile in a quiet area, but easy to access all the sites around Aswan.

Pros: Excellent location, staff and owners super helpful. Would help arrange trips with no hassle and good price. Very good food
